Are Strip Clubs 18+ in North Carolina? Age Rules, Explained

October 14, 2026 • 5 min read

Short answer: it depends on the club, not the state. Here is how the age rules work in North Carolina, what ID you need, and where Capital Cabaret lands.

The Law vs. the Club

North Carolina does not set a single statewide minimum age for walking into an adult entertainment venue. What the state does regulate is alcohol: the drinking age is 21, and any venue with an ABC permit has to enforce it. Everything else, including the minimum age at the door, is the club's own policy.

That is why you see both kinds. Some clubs set the door at 21 so everyone inside can be served and the bar does not have to track who is who. Others set it at 18 and run two checks: one at the door for entry, one at the bar for drinks.

Where Capital Cabaret Lands

  • 18 and over to enter, with a valid government-issued photo ID.
  • 21 and over to drink. ID is checked again at the bar and at the table.
  • Bring the physical card. A driver's license, state ID, passport or military ID.

Everything else you need before you come, from the dress code to the cover charge, is on Plan Your Visit.

Topless or Fully Nude?

This is the other question that comes bundled with the age one. North Carolina General Statute 18B-1005.1 prohibits fully nude entertainment on any premises that holds an ABC permit, meaning anywhere alcohol is sold. So the rule of thumb across the state is simple: if the club has a real bar, it is topless. If it is fully nude, it cannot serve alcohol.

Capital Cabaret has a full bar and a full kitchen, so the entertainment is topless. For most guests that is the better trade: a real night out with dinner, drinks and the show, rather than a dry room.

A Note for 18 to 20 Year Olds

You are welcome, and the stage, the kitchen, the private dances and the VIP rooms are all open to you. The bar is not, and the staff will not bend on it: serving an underage guest is how a club loses its permit. Order from the soft drink side of the menu, tip in cash, and have a good night.

What to Expect at the Door

  1. ID check. Physical card, your own, not expired.
  2. Dress code check. Collared shirt or a nice top, dark jeans or chinos, real shoes. No athletic wear, tank tops, flip-flops or ball caps. Details in the dress code guide.
  3. Cover. Free before 9PM. A cover applies after; call (984) 382-0485 for tonight's rate.

Capital Cabaret is at 6713 Mt Herman Rd in Morrisville, 5 minutes from RDU Airport, open every night from 6PM to 2AM. Directions from your town.

Quick Answers

Can you go to a strip club at 18 in North Carolina?

It depends on the club. North Carolina does not set a statewide minimum age for entering an adult entertainment venue; each club sets its own, and many that serve alcohol choose 21. Capital Cabaret admits guests 18 and over with a valid government-issued photo ID, and requires 21 or older to drink.

Is Capital Cabaret 18+?

Yes. 18 and over to enter with a valid government-issued photo ID. 21 and over to be served alcohol.

Why are some strip clubs 21+?

Clubs that serve alcohol often go 21+ so that every guest in the building can legally drink, which simplifies ID checks and bar service. An 18+ club that serves alcohol, like Capital Cabaret, checks ID at the door and again at the bar so under-21 guests are not served.

Are strip clubs in North Carolina topless or fully nude?

Under G.S. 18B-1005.1, venues that hold an ABC permit and serve alcohol cannot present fully nude entertainment. So clubs with a full bar, including Capital Cabaret, are topless. Fully nude venues in NC cannot serve alcohol.
